In college, Nick made extensive use of Fortran while pursuing a physics degree. Before How-To Geek, he used Python and C++ as a freelance programmer. He has been using computers for 20 years - tinkering with everything from the UI to the Windows registry to device firmware. I just press the space bar to dismiss it and make the password prompt appear.Nick Lewis is a staff writer for How-To Geek. I keep the lock screen enabled on my PC, even though it runs Windows 10 Education (which is functionally identical to Windows 10 Enterprise, and as such allows me to disable it). There are Group Policies that can disable ads for non-Microsoft products that work on Windows 10 Pro, but first-party ads and text will remain. This will disable all text and ads on the lock screen, limiting it to one image you select. That being said, I would go to Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen and turn off "Show fun facts, tips, tricks and more on the lock screen" (you need to first select a background option other than Windows Spotlight for this option to appear). This is because the lock screen is one of the ways Microsoft pushes advertisements to their users, and they don't want users to be able to (easily) stop the inane ads. Even if you disabled the login prompt (or used an account with no password), you would still see the lock screen dismissing it would then take you directly to the desktop. Unfortunately, as you noted there is no way to forcibly disable the lock screen on non-Enterprise editions of Windows.
